2021

In honor of the Zonta Int’l Centennial, Zonta Madison sponsored the WI Women’s Network Accelerated Policy Institute.

To meet the demand of Wisconsin women interested in expanded their policy advocacy skills, the Wisconsin Women’s Network launched its first Accelerated Policy Institute in 2018. With generous donations from Zonta Club members, the Zonta Madison Foundation sponsored the March 2021 Women’s Network’s Accelerated Policy Institute with a $10,000 grant.

The Accelerated Policy Institute, designed for women of all experience levels, aims to grow the number of women who have the confidence, skills, and strategic know-how to successfully engage in their local and statewide communities on policy issues that matter to Wisconsin women and girls. Led by T.R. Williams, It provided hands-on intersectional advocacy and leadership, communications, and policy advocacy training in a condensed two-day format. Women from underrepresented or marginalized communities were encouraged to attend and invited to apply for Zonta Scholarships. Several Zonta members completed this very valuable training.

Institute Agenda: Policy, Advocacy, and How a Bill Really Becomes a Law (in Wisconsin); The Biennial Budget Process; Mastering an Elevator Speech on a Policy Issue; Effective Meetings With Legislators; Insights from Legislative Staffers; Public Speaking Skills for Women; Effective Media Skills; Building Effective Advocacy Coalitions; Effectively Testifying at Legislative Hearings; Overview of Nonprofit Lobbying Laws; Networking Opportunities.
